QUESTION: My friend teases me because I like Justin Beiber.
She calls him stupid and she said he sings like a frog. My mom says I should like whoever I like and to stand up for it. I feel a little shy to do that. What do you think I should say to my friend?
ANSWER: Your mom is right. You should stand up for yourself because if your friend likes a singer and musician that you didn't like, you probably wouldn't be mean to her. You could say, "You can like the singer and musician you like, so I can like the musician and singer I like." If you say that, you're standing up for yourself and what you like! QUESTION: I'm in Kindergarten and I don't want to go to school.
My mom told me to ask you this. She is writing what I say. I'm in Kindergarten and I don't want to go to school. I feel a little bit afraid to talk to my teacher. My mommy said my teacher is really nice though.
ANSWER: Did you try to talk to your teacher at Open House? That would have been a good time to try because your mommy was with you. What you have to do is to keep going to school and you will see how it is. When you get to know the kids in your class you will feel better and then you will just get used to your teacher. I felt a little shy the first few days also. It will get better when you get to know the people you are with. I hope this helps you. Just keep trying!

My best friend is mad at me!
QUESTION: I'm in first grade. There is a new girl in my class that doesn't know anyone. My teacher said for us to help her and be friends with her. Now my best friend is mad at me and she thinks I like the new girl more. I really like my best friend but she thinks that I don't. What should I do? Should I stop being nice to the new girl?

QUESTION FROM A 2nd GRADE GIRL.
Question: I'm almost 8 and my friend was mean to me today. It made me feel like I had the worst day because I was crying. I always cry when this happens. What can I do?
Answer: It just happens sometimes then kids get over it and they are usually friends again the next day, unless they are bullies and they're mean all the time. I know that it feels sad but that's just how kids are. If you cry about it all the time, it won't feel good. When you know that it just happens it doesn't feel as bad. Thanks for writing to me.
